A working meeting on climate change issues took place in Ashgabat. The meeting was organized within the framework of the project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Green Urban Development in Ashgabat and Awaza" implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The event was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the participation of representatives from various ministries and departments.

The working meeting aimed to familiarize representatives of ministries and agencies with the process of preparation of Turkmenistan's Fourth National Communication (NC4) and First Biennial Report (BUR1) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as to discuss the implementation of Turkmenistan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Participants also considered issues related to fulfilling the Global Methane Pledge and preparing Turkmenistan's participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the UNFCCC. The event will take place in November of this year in Baku.

The working meeting was intended to facilitate effective coordination of efforts by Turkmenistan's government agencies in implementing joint projects with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the field of climate change. This will provide new impetus for advancing and successfully fulfilling Turkmenistan's commitments under the global climate agreements.
