In the Magtymguly etrap pomegranate harvest underway

These days, gardeners of the Magtymguly etrap of the Balkan velayat, tenant farmers are actively engaged in harvesting crops, one of the most famous and environmentally friendly products of the velayat, grown in various orchards.

These fruits, grown in fertile gardens, not only have a pleasant taste, but are also recognized for their medicinal properties. Other fruits such as apples, pears, plums, peaches and grapes are also collected from these gardens.

The pomegranates of the Sumbar Valley are distinguished by their diversity. Breeders and gardeners of this region have developed many varieties that are adapted to local conditions, and some types of pomegranate trees growing in the wild along mountain streams are even included in the Red Book. The fruits differ in taste and characteristics — from a sweet and sour taste to different skin thicknesses and grain sizes.

Thanks to the work of local farmers and breeders, pomegranates, known under the common name "Pomegranate of beautiful Sumbar", have become popular not only in Turkmenistan, but also beyond its borders. The yield of each tree varies from 20 to 70 kilograms, and the weight of some fruits can reach 500-600 grams.

Pomegranate is valued not only for its taste, but also for its medicinal properties, which are mentioned in scientific works, such as the encyclopedic book "Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan". In addition to eating, pomegranate is also used in folk medicine and even for decorative purposes — its peel serves as a natural dye for national dishes.

The pomegranate harvest season in the subtropical region lasts until the end of November, allowing citizens of Turkmenistan to enjoy these healthy and tasty fruits for several months.
