Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan are participating in an international seminar held on October 15-16 in Istanbul, supported by the United Nations Development Programme. The meeting aims to strengthen the capacity of national delegations of participating countries for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The Istanbul meeting serves as a final session to address organizational issues, plan discussion vectors, agendas and planned actions on the sidelines of COP-29. Key topics of the climate agenda were discussed, including their scientific foundations, mitigation mechanisms (reducing greenhouse gas emissions), and climate financing. Special attention was given to Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on climate (signed in 2015 and ratified by Turkmenistan in 2016), which plays an important role in international efforts to reduce emissions and create so-called global carbon markets. Participants were introduced to the latest global trends in this area and discussed technologies that will help countries, including Turkmenistan, effectively participate in international carbon trading.

During the sessions, discussions also covered the results of recent reports from the United Nations Environment Programme concerning mitigation and adaptation, outcomes of COP-28, priorities for COP-29, the current state of global community climate efforts, and upcoming negotiations.

Turkmenistan's participation in such discussions helps not only to strengthen the country's position on the international stage but also to adapt global initiatives to national priorities in the area of climate change.
