Today, the capital hotel "Ýyldyz" hosted the international conference «Cooperation in maintenance of food security in the context of climate change»”.

Heads of profile ministries of our country, Assistant Director General, Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and representatives of other authoritative organisations and financial structures attended the forum, which was held in the hybrid format.

The main objective of the conference was coordination of regional and global cooperation for maintenance of food security under the conditions of climate change.

As they marked, under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov the agricultural branch of the country consistently develops, its export potential strengthens and a great significance is attached to introduction of modern technologies and achievements of science. In this regard, cooperation with profile international organisations plays an important role.

In the given context, it was noted that Turkmenistan develops fruitful relations with the United Nations Organization and its specialised agencies. In particular, a number of projects were implemented together with the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations.

Ecological well-being is an important factor of enhancement of food security. On the margins of the National strategy of climate change and the National forest program in our country necessary steps are carried out. Turkmenistan, which is one of the first countries to have adapted sustainable development goals at the national level, takes an active part in realisation of the Agenda 2030. Supporting international efforts in this area, our country puts forward initiatives on development of perspective-balanced solutions for settlement of corresponding issues.

Introduction of the concept of "green" economy, which is an important requirement of time in the agricultural branch, promotes maintenance of sustainable development and ecological well-being. In Turkmenistan, corresponding work is realized in the given area.

It is also necessary to point out that the country’s research establishments carry out due work to create new high-yielding species of seeds of various crops adapted to soil-environmental conditions. Regular scientific researches, preparation of highly skilled specialists act as main components of sustainable development of the branch. Thanks to the work of scientists-agriculturists and profile experts productivity of agricultural crops raises and by that a reliable food basis of the country, which is of great importance in maintenance of ecological balance and adaptation to changing conditions, is provided.

Then, the floor was given to the guests of the forum.

Assistant Director General of the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) Viorel Gutu spoke first.

As he marked, before agriculture and the system of food maintenance are important issues: biodiversity preservation, improvement of ameliorative condition of fields, rational use of water resources. Their successful fulfilment ensures improvement of quality and increase in volumes of food production.

FAO advances such modern solution as digitalization of agriculture based on high technologies. All it promotes monitoring of condition of agricultural crops and soils, to decrease in expenses and productivity increase.

During the online conference Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi spoke. Having noted that he is glad to take part in today's important action, the head of IAEA told of the work of the Agency in the field of combat against climate change, maintenance of food security and underlined urgency of development of cooperation in this area.

An emphasis was made on interrelation of agricultural branch and process of climate change, which directly influence the agrarian sector. In recent years in connection with development of world economy growth agricultural and industrial production leads to increase in emissions of hotbed gases.

In the given context, importance of adaptation of agriculture to the conditions connected with climate change was marked. Therefore on the foreground necessity of cooperation between countries, coordination of joint efforts act.

As he marked, Turkmenistan consistently develops interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency. As a member of this Organization, our country takes an active part in realisation of its regional and national projects in the field of climate change and food security.

In speeches of participants, an emphasis was made the fact that maintenance of food security in the conditions of climate change has a multilateral character. In this connection, necessity of increase of efficiency of international cooperation was marked.

Having underlined the importance of today's meeting, its participants expressed sincere gratitude to the Turkmen side for a high level of organisation of the forum.

During the conference, the document between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations was signed.
