A meeting on the One Health in Central Asia project was held in Ashgabat

In order to promote health, economic stability, social development, and environmental sustainability, the Central Asian countries are cooperating to enhance their capacity to prepare for and respond to pandemics and epidemics.

The Central Asian States are working together to implement a "One Health" approach to pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, with the support of the quadrilateral One Health Alliance. The alliance includes organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Programme, the World Bank and the World Health Organization.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen and improve veterinary, environmental and medical systems involved in managing pandemics. In addition, it helps strengthen the capacity of Central Asian countries, which in turn reduces the impact of future pandemics.

On January 28, 2025, the implementing agencies in Ashgabat held an annual National Coordination Meeting. The meeting brought together project partners such as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, the State Veterinary Service of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and other interested parties.

During the meeting, the participants assessed the progress in the implementation of the project and identified the potential for enhanced coordination between implementing organizations and partner agencies working on "One Health" initiatives in the region. The participants also shared their experiences and discussed further actions.
