In his welcome address to participants of the international environmental conference, which has started its work in Ashgabat today the President of Turkmenistan reaffirms that Turkmenistan was committed to promoting the global ecological dialogue. The conference is entitled “Environmental Cooperation of Turkmenistan with Major International Organisations: Achievements and Success”.
In his address the Turkmen leader notes that “at all times the existence of mankind has depended on its attitude towards the nature, on how it uses natural resources. A steady economic growth of a state and environmental security of a country are also closely interconnected with the nature. …The current regulatory framework of the country guarantees a favourable habitat and comfort conditions of life to citizens. This is vividly illustrated by over a dozen of environmental laws adopted in the state.”
Turkmenistan actively contributes to addressing complex environmental issues in the framework of international conferences, agreements, projects. The proposals and initiates to improve the environment in the Central Asian region, ensure sustainable development of the Caspian region, protect the marine environment and efficiently use its resources put forward by Turkmenistan at the sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly were of particular interest to the international community . Under changing climatic conditions on the planet our country supports the goals of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and stands ready to work with the international organisations towards achieving them. In this regard Turkmenistan proposed to establish the Interregional Centre on Climate Change under the aegis of the UN.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasizes that Turkmenistan that has inexhaustible supply of hydrocarbon resources stands for elaborating legal foundations for environmentally friendly hydrocarbon extraction, processing and transit and put forward the proposal to establish on a permanent basis the Caspian Environment Council which would tackle environmental issues for the Caspian region and develop adequate proposals.
“Putting forward new proposals and initiatives on environmental issues, Turkmenistan stands ready for intensifying and promoting positive cooperation on global scale,” states the Turkmen leader.
