President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov issued the Decree “On the Granting of Turkmen Citizenship”. In accordance with the Decree a group of persons who permanently reside in the territory of Turkmenistan and are not Turkmen citizens was granted Turkmen citizenship.
This decision adopted on the eve of the 20th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan is another evidence for the commitment of the Turkmen state to universally recognized norms of international law for the protection of human rights and freedoms and the principles of humanism and humanness and the respect for the right to free choice of citizenship.
In accordance with the Decree the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the other ministries and departments involved are authorized to carry on the work on the execution of documents for the persons who have expressed a willingness to become Turkmen citizens.
