Prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Republic of Tatarstan discussed in Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov, who was on a visit to Ashgabat to attend the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan, at the Oguzkhan palace complex.

Thanking for the heartfelt and cordial welcome extended in the Turkmen land, the head of the largest region of the Russian Federation heartily congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on receiving the high government awards and the title of Hero of Turkmenistan that was another sign of the people’s respect and love and the big, bright holiday embodying the triumph of the ideas of genuine sovereignty which in fact had predetermined the way of development of present-day Turkmenistan.

“I am very glad to share this great joy today with the brotherly Turkmen people whom I wish with all my heart peace, happiness and prosperity for ever,” emphasized the distinguished guest.

President of Tatarstan of the RF Rustam Minnikhanov noted that all grandiose achievements of the Turkmen state, which had made the breakthrough to the level of developed countries of the world in a short period of time, had became possible through the prominent role of the nation leader who had managed to unite the Turkmen people and use their creative energy towards progress and prosperity. Turkmenistan’s spectacular progress in the epoch of new Revival, in his option, was nothing but an immediate outcome of the large-scale reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as well as the well thought-out foreign policy strategy aimed at establishing and promoting relations of friendship and constructive cooperation with different countries of the world.

Cordially greeting the distinguished guest and thanking for the kind words and wishes, the leader of the Turkmen state underscored special significance attached to enhancement and expansion of the traditional friendly, constructive dialogue with the Russian Federation and its largest regions, including Tatarstan that Turkmenistan was bound with long-term economic and cultural contacts based on historically established good neighbourly relations and the firm ties of mutual respect and support.

A substantial, constructive exchange of views on the current state and prospects for cooperation initially built on equality and mutual benefit took place during the meeting in a cordial, sincere atmosphere.

Noting that bilateral collaboration had been intensified significantly in recent years, the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan reaffirmed that the sides stood ready to step up further partnership in a wide spectrum of fields. In this context the President of Turkmenistan and the President of Tatarstan discussed in detail the specific steps to be taken to promote bilateral agreements and identified the plans for the future.

Emphasizing that the business community of Tatarstan was keenly interested in expanding on the promising Turkmen market, President Rustam Minnikhanov said the favourable investment climate and the impeccable reputation of Turkmenistan, which had won the prestige of a conscientious and dependable business partner, provided fertile soil for this.

Underlining Turkmenistan’s readiness to promote multifaceted joint activity with partners from Tatarstan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed belief that the successful experience of long-term cooperation would be enriched properly through launching new ambitious projects on national and regional scale.

The Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that existing fruitful contacts between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan could serve as an illustrative example of effective collaboration within trade and economic and humanitarian and cultural partnerships with the Russian Federation that had the strategic character and was dynamically developed in recent years.

The sides agreed that promotion of trade and economic contacts as well as cooperation in a number of key areas, including the fuel and energy, transport, textile, agricultural, machine-building and shipbuilding industries had a special place on the agenda of the multifaceted dialogue between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan. A focus of the talks was the opportunities to exchange experiences in the sphere of sport that Turkmenistan and Tatarstan took significant efforts to develop.

The Turkmen leader and his distinguished guest were unanimous that cultural and humanitarian cooperation, which had been filled with a qualitatively new content at the present stage, contributed directly to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said to meet the national development priorities Turkmenistan paid special attention to expanding contacts in the spheres of scientific and education, particularly to conducting joint archaeological and ethnographic research and training highly qualified specialists at institutions of higher education and research centres in the Russian Federation.

At the conclusion of the talks the President of Turkmenistan thanked the President of Tatarstan for attending the anniversary celebrations and expressed gratitude for his profound personal contribution to enriching and enhancing the age-old traditions of friendship and good neighbourliness

Upon concluding the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Rustam Minnikhanov exchanged the wishes of happiness, wellbeing and prosperity to the peoples of Turkmenistan and Tatarstan and underlined the mutual keen interest in steadily intensifying mutually advantageous cooperation in line with the strategy of interstate relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian which met the long-term mutual interests. Taking an opportunity, the Turkmen leader expressed the cordial greetings and best wishes to President of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev and Prime Minister of the friendly country Vladimir Putin.

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov left for his country on that day.
