At the first meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers this year, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved work plans for the cultural sector. The key focus of the relevant agencies will be the celebration of the 35th anniversary of independence of the country and the holding of various events under the year's motto: «Independent neutral Turkmenistan – the homeland of purposeful winged horses».
According to the report of deputy-prime minister B. Seyidova, one of the priority areas of work is strengthening the international authority of the country through cooperation with UNESCO. This year, plans include the preparation of national and multilateral nominations for inclusion on the World Heritage List, large-scale restoration and research work on the historical and cultural monuments of the country, and the promotion of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Turkmen people.
Based on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan to bring the activities of cultural institutions into line with the requirements of the times, certain steps have been outlined.
Thus, tasks arising from the Concept for the development of the digital economy will need to be implemented in museums, libraries, and specialised educational institutions. The «Türkmenfilm» Association named after Oguz han will begin creating new films reflecting the achievements of the epoch. Theatres will aim to stage performances that «reflect the spirit of the times». New creative competitions will also be announced.
Particular attention will be paid to the development of international tourism and improving the quality of cultural services for the population. In this area, measures are planned to strengthen the material-technical base of departments and regularly improve the qualifications of cultural workers.
