The final competition of the national contest for the title of the best craftswomen for doing a felt organized by the Union of Women of Turkmenistan, the Ministries of Culture and Textile Industry took place in the foyer of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Doing a felt is a collective effort. During the competition, the groups of needlewomen gradually worked on doing of felt. Sheep wool of spring and autumn tonsure thoroughly washed and pre-dried in the sun for a long time and continuously whipped one of the contestants twigs. Then the lumps of snow-white wool fell to other masters who, on a spindle, formed yarn. Different threads of color were laid out in accordance with the composition of the ornament. At this point ended the competition but the process of doing the felt includes two more stages. The piece part of felt rolls down into a tight roll and is poured on top with steep boiling water, and then dried in the sun.
Since the felt doing is created in co-creation, the collective spirit is very important. Perhaps, therefore, the masters in the process of painstaking work on creating an artistic interpretation of the ancient floor cover singing their favorite songs and telling the old legends. The musical and ethnographic accompaniment of the process of birth of a felt carpet became one of the competitive nominations.
The group of craftswomen from the Akhal region managed the best with competitive tasks according to the jury. The heroines immediately got into the camera lens. On behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, carpets were donated to them. The second and third places participants were also awarded valuable gifts. However, all participants of the original review received prizes and certificates of honor.
