The Head of the State specifies the objectives of activation of cooperation with Japan

At the session of the Government on October 26, Vice-premier, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the outcomes of working visit of Turkmenistan delegation to Japan.

It was informed that during the visit to Tokyo, meetings with the heads of the Government, Parliament and number of state authorities, where current condition and perspectives of further cooperation in its key directions were discussed, have taken place.

During the talks on trade and economic partnership, great importance was given to the role of Turkmen- Japanese Committee. As for today, 12 sessions of the Committee took place. The list of perspective projects planned to be reviewed in 2018 – 2020 has been outlined.

Subjects related to investment activity were the subjects of interested discussion. Turkmen side made proposal on development of joint programme of cooperation in this sphere. Special attention was paid to cooperation in humanitarian and cultural field and scientific and educational sphere as well as in sport and organization of big international competitions.

In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that improvement of versatile cooperation with Japan is one of priority directions in the context of development of constructive dialog between Turkmenistan and the countries of Asian Pacific region.

Relative leaders received the assignments related to further development of Turkmen – Japanese cooperation in wide spectrum of directions including in humanitarian and cultural sphere. In particular, the Head of the State ordered to organize exhibitions and meetings dedicated to national traditions and other cultural meetings.

At the same time, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave orders on intensification of bilateral scientific and educational contacts, study of the best practice of Japanese partners in practical implementation of the innovations and know-hows. Opening of Oguzkhan Engineering and Technology University and specialized secondary school with Japanese language in its programme in Ashgabat in 2016 is visual example of steadfast dynamics of cooperation in this direction.

At the same time, the Head of the State ordered to pay attention to stimulation of bilateral cooperation in sport sphere and to provide high level of training of Turkmen sportsmen for the participation in XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

The President specified the objectives for improvement of Turkmen – Japanese economic partnership and investment activity where oil, gas and industrial sectors, improvement of relations in financial and banking structures, small and medium business as well as procurement of modern specialized equipment are priority vectors.

Continuing the subject, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the necessity of study and implementation of advanced Japanese practice in modernization and electrification of railroad transport and establishment of the network of high-speed railway.
