Future of Turkmen – Korean cooperation is discussed in Seoul

At the video conference working session on February 25, Vice-premier M. Meredov informed the Head of the State about the outcomes of working trip of Turkmen delegation to Seoul. During the visit, the members of Turkmen delegation were received by Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Lee Nak-yeon.

The initiative about the expansion of the cooperation with the Korean Export and Import Bank (KEXIM) and the Korean Trade Insurance Corporation (KSURE) in financing of the projects to be implemented in Turkmenistan by Korean companies has been supported. In addition, the talks with the top managers of Korean companies Samsung and LG regarding their participation in investment projects in oil and gas sphere have been held.

Regular seventh session of the Intergovernmental Turkmen – Korean Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held. During the meeting, the sides discussed the subjects of the implementation of previous agreements and future of further development of trade and economic relations, partnership in energy sphere, construction, transport and communication, agriculture as well as science, education, health protection, culture, sport, tourism and standardization.

Petroleum and chemical industries, where number of investment projects has been already implemented, were outlined among priority spheres. Having confirmed mutual interest in intensification of productive cooperation, the sides discussed number of specific measures for diversification of business partnership that has significant potential.

In this context, the importance of activation of the cooperation between relative ministries and departments including by continuing the practice of organization of exhibitions, fairs and business forums supporting the expansion of business contacts and exchange of practice was highlighted.

The sides agreed to organize the participation of Turkmen specialists in Medical Korea 2019 Conference, having highlighted the importance of exchange of practices, study of advanced technologies in health protection sphere. Relative protocol has been signed by the outcomes of the session.

Business forum, where opportunities of expansion of the partnership including in private business, in fish breeding, export of industrial production made in Turkmenistan, supply of equipment for processing of agricultural goods and production of food as well as in other directions, was organized with the participation of Trade and Industrial Chamber of Turkmenistan and Korean International Trade Association (KITA).

Number of documents on cooperation between eh members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and Korean companies in the sphere of water management, agriculture and other spheres has been signed by the outcomes of the talks.

Summing up the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that strengthening of constructive relations with the states of Asian Pacific region, where huge potential for fruitful cooperation meeting mutual interests is present, is one of priority vectors of foreign course of our country. Turkmenistan sees the Republic of Korea as an important and reliable partner, cooperation with which is built on equal and long-term base.

Implementing integrated reforming programmes oriented to full modernization of national economy, creation of powerful industrial infrastructure, improvement of social sphere, our country relies on wide implementation of innovations, advanced technologies and the best world practice. In this aspect, the most favourable opportunities, which Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea try to implement with maximum output, are opened for efficient Turkmen – Korean cooperation.

The Head of the State gave relative instructions for intensification of Turkmen – Korean economic partnership and investment activity where petroleum processing and industrial sectors are the key vectors, on strengthening of the links between financial and banking structures, small and medium business.

Great opportunities for productive cooperation are available in transit and transport sphere. Construction, textile industry and agriculture were named among perspective directions of bilateral cooperation. The President of Turkmenistan noted an important role of joint Intergovernmental Commission, which activity is aimed at maximum implementation of available potential and capabilities of the partnership.

At the same time, the Head of the State ordered to activate the work for intensification of bilateral scientific and educational contacts, study of the best practice of Korean partners in practical implementation of the innovations as well as to develop the cooperation in health protection and tourism on systematic base.
