An important agricultural campaign – cotton-sowing campaign started in the country. Cotton growers in Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary Velayats launched the campaign on March 23, cotton growers in Dashoguz Velayat – on March 27.
This year, it is planned to harvest 1.050 million tons of ‘white cotton’ from 550.000 hectares, including 207.000 tons in Ahal Velayat, 5.000 tons in Balkan Velayat, 230.000 tons in Dashoguz Velayat, 295.000 tons in Lebap Velayat, 313.000 tons in Mary Velayat.
For the first time, the agricultural producers in the private sector, who received the plots of land from the special agricultural land fund, are sowing cotton on 25.567 hectares.
The medium-fiber varieties, which are traditionally cultivated in all regions of the country, will be sown this year. The preference is given to such varieties as "Yoloten-7", "Dashoguz-120", "Dashoguz-144", "Serdar", "C-4727", "Yoloten-39", "Jeyhun", "C-2606" that are remarkable for early ripeness, improve yields, fiber length. Based on the soil and climatic conditions, sowing of thin-fiber varieties, in particular, "Yoloten-14" will be sown in the Ahal and Mary regions.
7.500 tractors of various brands, about 2.000 seeders, more than 4.500 cultivators, harrows and other agricultural equipment will be used during this year’s cotton sowing campaign. All necessary conditions for round-the-clock technical and service maintenance of equipment, work and good rest for machine operators and other participants in the sowing campaign have been created everywhere.
375 biological laboratories operating in the territory of etraps and peasant associations will provide cotton growers with environmentally friendly and cost-effective bio-products used against cotton pests.
