Aspects of cooperation with the UN Representative Office in Turkmenistan are discussed at the meeting in the Foreign Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the meeting with the heads and representative of the United Nations agencies and specialized structures accredited in Turkmenistan.

The UN Permanent Coordinator, the UNICEF Representative, the WHO Representative in Turkmenistan as well as representatives of the UNDP, IMO, UNFPA, UNODC and the World Bank Group in Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the results of joint work carried out in the first decade of 2019 has been summed up as well as perspectives of cooperation in coming period, implementation of joint plans and programmes of cooperation have been discussed. Having noted strategic character of the partnership, the UN Permanent Coordinator Elena Panova expressed the gratitude to Turkmen side for constant support.

Issues of development of cooperation in different directions have been discussed in the context of priority objectives. Having noted established mechanism of cooperation between Turkmenistan and United Nations, the sides outlined number of the main documents. It includes the Framework Programme of Partnership for Development between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2016 – 2020, the Action Plan of the Programme of the Country between Turkmenistan and the UNDP for 2016 – 2020, the Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNDP on Co-sponsorship as well as the Action Plans of the Country Programme between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNICEF, the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNFPA for 2016 – 2020.

In the end of the meeting, the sides have signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Representative Office in Turkmenistan in coordination of readiness and response to emergency situations.
