A modern health care infrastructure continues developing in all regions of Turkmenistan in frames the State Health Programme and other large-scale programmes. New medical institutions, sanatoriums and travel centres are put into operation in the country every year.

Among them is the Berzengi sanatorium, located 7.5 kilometres to the south of Ashgabat in the picturesque foothills of the Kopetdag Mountings.

The mineral spring has been famous for its healing properties for a long time. In 1967, geologists received mineral water flow with healing properties in terms of its physical and chemical composition.

In February 2012, in accordance with the Decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a new building of the sanatorium was built. The head of state personally supervised the construction, acquainted in details with the equipping of the sanatorium, the conditions created there, demanding that the medical services provided in the sanatorium meet the highest international standards.

Health centres in Turkmenistan are the synthesis of natural, sanatorium and economic potential. The nature of the area, pure mountain air and life-giving healing water of the Berzengi source create the most favorable conditions for recovering one’s health and healing diseases.

The well provides seven liters of water per second. Water contains 24 trace elements and its mineral composition enables to classify Berzengi natural mineral water as sulphate – magnesia - potassium mineral waters. Its mineralization and acidity is 3.4 g / dm3 and pH 7.15, temperature - 37 degrees.

According to hydrogeochemistry standards, Berzengi mineral water is therapeutic and dietary water that contributes to the rapid recovery of a human body, increasing its immunity, resistance to infectious diseases. Today, scientists continue to study the composition of this water, identifying its new therapeutic possibilities.

All conditions necessary for year-round service are created in the Berzengi sanatorium. There are diagnostic and therapeutic units. Cabinets are equipped with modern medical equipment and the latest developments from leading manufacturers.

There are devices for ultrasound diagnostics, cardiac electrocardiography, Holter ECG monitoring, as well as daily blood pressure monitoring at the diagnostic department.

There are rooms for inhalation, electrophoresis, light treatment, acupuncture, as well as physiotherapy.

Of course, the main type of treatment is mineral water, which is used for therapeutic baths with electric pulse, shower and hydro massage.

Due to the new advanced equipment installed at the sanatorium, patients can undergo colon hydrotherapy - a method of cleansing and irrigating intestines with mineral water.

The sanatorium also offers pelotherapy with therapeutic mud, paraffin and ozocerite.

There is a special pool, filled with mineral water and therapeutic clay from the Mollakara resort in the treatment room.

The combination of biologically active substances has a beneficial effect in the treatment of various inflammatory diseases, including the respiratory system, urogenital system, etc. The tea bar at the sanatorium offers a variety of teas.

The sanatorium provides the opportunities to visit the Berzengi healing source at any time.

From the point of view of the organization of treatment and rehabilitation, Turkmen resorts and sanatoriums reach the international level, including increasing the export value of medical services and the healing resources of our country, many of which are unique.
