Today, the nation’s leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has visited the Akhalteke Horse Breeding Complex of the President of Turkmenistan (located in one of the most beautiful and scenic areas in the Kopetdag foothills) to see and commune with ‘heavenly’ horses that are much like people.

The head of state proceeded to the stable and approached a horse named Akshakher – a gift to the nation’s leader from Ashgabat residents on the occasion of National Turkmen Horse Day and Ashgabat’s 140th anniversary. The head of state led the horse out of the stable for a walk.

Born in 2019, the fine Akhalteke horse is an immediate descendant of Akpat and Damana; its direct line can be traced back to the famed horse called Eyeberdy-Teleke.

After the walk, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov led Akshakher back to the stable and visited a horse named Khanbeg. The magnificent horse is descended from Khanbegler and Okgyz, with recorded ancestry tracing back to the glorious horse named Gaplan.

The nation’s leader mounted Khanbeg and went for a leisurely ride on the track.

Then, Khanbeg slowed to a trot.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has always highlighted the importance of studying extensively the history of Turkmen horses, their defining traits, promoting and preserving the ancient horse breeding traditions for generations yet to come.

Taking advantage of the ample opportunities created in the country for preserving the purity and unique characteristics of these ‘heavenly’ horses and developing the breeding practices, Turkmen horse breeders are working efficiently in this area.

Thanks to the head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s constant care and attention, efforts are being made to widely popularize the national horse-breeding practices brought to perfection that mirror a close connection between generations through the centuries. This provides a favorable and stimulating environment for their development.
