Turkmenistan and UNESCO work over new projects

The work on inclusion of multilateral and national nominations of Turkmenistan into the UNESCO World Heritage List proceeds. Vice-premier, head of MFA of Turkmenistan R.Meredov informed on it in the online meeting of the government.

As he said, multilateral nominations are prepared: together with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan - «Zeravshan - the Kara Kum corridor of the Great Silk road» and together with Iran -« Turkmen art of embroidery », which were submitted to the UNESCO Secretary. It is expected that decisions on them will be accepted in 2022.

Head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted that work on preparation for transnational nomination «Turanian deserts of the temperate zone», including reserves of deserts of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is conducted as well. In its frameworks in the List of the World Heritage of UNESCO it is planned to include three state natural reserves of our country: Repetek biosphere, Bereketli Garagum and Kaplankyr.

Also the national file of the mountain ecosystem of the Koytendag on inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List is developed. With a view of enrichments of this file, it’s strengthening research and information component, attraction of the advanced international experience it is offered to make active cooperation with the US Centre for Large Landscape Conservation. Thereupon, the expediency of preparation of drafts, corresponding Memorandums of mutual understanding was noted.

Summarising the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that Turkmenistan gives particular attention to popularisation historical- cultural and natural monuments of the country in the world. The head of the state gave the vice-premier, head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and also other corresponding heads the concrete commissions, related to further strengthening of cooperation with UNESCO.
