Turkmenistan increases production and export of natural gas

view-icon 6630

In January-August, 2021, the volume of production of natural and associated gas in Turkmenistan exceeded 55 billion cubic meters. This is 10.4 billion cubic meters more as compare to the same period of 2020.

The increase in natural gas production is a result of the growing demand for "blue fuel" in the world markets. Thus, Turkmenistan exported almost 31 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 8.3 billion cubic meters more than in January-August 2020.

China is the main importer of Turkmen gas. The Central Asia-China gas pipeline supplies 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year, and its total throughput is 55 billion cubic meters. Since the launch of this energy pipeline, more than 300 billion cubic meters of commercial gas have been exported to China from the fields of Turkmenistan.

Along with export, the demand for "blue fuel" in the domestic market of the country also steadily grows. This is due to the fact that in recent years new gas turbine power plants and gas processing complexes have been commissioned in Turkmenistan, including a polymer plant in Kiyanly, a plant for the production of urea fertilizers in Garabogaz and a plant for the production of synthetic gasoline in Ahal velayat.
