President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) countries to develop cooperation on energy and transport.

The head of the state declared about it on the XV Summit of heads of ECO countries, holding in Ashgabat within the framework of the Turkmen presidency in the organization.

He stated that among the most important priorities of ECO, Turkmenistan sees the development of cooperation in the transport and energy sectors.

“Today it is the defining trend of global economic growth,” the Turkmen leader emphasized.

According to the head of state, the urgent tasks of the ECO for the foreseeable future should be timely participation in this process using competitive advantages and ensuring oneself the role of a full-fledged participant in the formation of new transport and transit corridors and energy routes.

The President of Turkmenistan reminded that construction of OHL on Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, railways form Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, as well as the pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India are currently underway.

According to the leader of the nation, our country pays special attention to the activation of transport and transit communication along lines East-West and South-North. The head of the state emphasized that it is about formation of the transport corridors Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman, as well as Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey.

«The realization of the large infrastructure projects with the participation of ECO member-states means the qualitative leap forward in the formation of the new

geo-economic environment in the continent, opens up great prospects for cooperation in attracting large investments and solving a number of pressing social problems», – stated the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
