Dashoguz, a cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2016 hosts International scientific-practical conference

Opening ceremony dedicated to International scientific-practical conference titled "Turkmenistan is the land abundant with spiritual and cultural values" held in the State Music and Drama Theatre named after N. Andaliba within the framework of events dedicated to the proclamation of Dashoguz the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2016.


This status is granted to the city Dashaguz as the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2016. The city, organically combines modern infrastructure, has been given an opportunity to once again attract the attention of the world’s scientists, including the CIS countries. Surviving in the northern region of the country the unique architectural monuments included the UNESCO World Heritage List, become vivid subject for joint research and restoration work in cooperation of national and foreign experts.

Early in the morning at the airport of Dashoguz, it was solemnly welcomed foreign visitors - scientists, literary critics, culture, art historians, historians, linguists, architects, archaeologists and other representatives of the cultural sphere of the CIS countries.


National science represents scientists of relevant institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, the cultural centers of the country, experts of museums and libraries, university professors and specialized secondary schools of creative sphere.

Forum participants’ day start with a visit of holy places. Cultural figures and art have made the pilgrimage to the State Historical and Cultural Complex "Kunyaurgench". This architectural reserve combines objects of worship of people. Thus, Kunyaurgench monuments are clear evidence of fruitful international scientific cooperation. As is known, the XXIX session of the World Heritage Committee held in Durban (South Africa) had unanimously decided to include the ancient city of Kunya Urgench in UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. Today, in the territory of Dashoguz region is nearly two dozen architectural monuments of different epochs, testifying the original grandeur of the ancient capital of Turkmenistan is at one time one of the largest centers of the East.


Having visited the architectural ensemble of the mausoleums Najmeddin Kubra and Sultan Ali, the Museum "Dash Mosque" and the mausoleum Tyurabek Khanum, as well as monuments of Dash-Kala - "Portal caravanserai", mausoleums Il Arslan, Tekesh strives to the blue sky which is majestic and the minaret of Kutlug Timur which is one of the highest in Central Asia. Foreign guests are admired by the consummate mastery and talent of Turkmen architects who left behind a masterpiece of architectural art. Speaking at the plenary session of the International Conference titled "Turkmenistan is the land, abundant with spiritual and cultural values," the scientists stressed that implementation of the program "Dashoguz is the cultural capital of the Commonwealth", will give the city new opportunities to demonstrate its historical and cultural wealth, the touristic potential to expand ties with the CIS to introduce the sightseeings of Turkmenistan at the international level.

Speaking about the importance of cultural relations, forum participants note that Turkmenistan is a modern center of interstate dialogue on culture. Establishment of close scientific ties with leading foreign research and university centers and exchange of experiences and achievements of scientists contribute to a more complete and comprehensive study of the history, spiritual and cultural heritage of both the Turkmen and other peoples of the region to identify its roles and places in the development of world civilization .


Forum participants share outcomes of the research findings in the field of tangible and intangible heritage of Dashoguz region, monuments, the search for new written sources and archaeological findings, confirm the new discoveries to ensure significant spiritual and cultural, humanistic and scientific achievements of the Turkmen people in the development of mankind.

Separate sessions were devoted to scholars of the middle ages, having left a vivid print in the history of human civilization. This era has given pleiad of geniuses of the outstanding Turkmen scholars, writers and poets, whose work largely determined further development of many sciences, development of national literatures, extending its influence far to the West and the East.


Foreign representatives of scientific circles express their appreciation for the opportunity to exchange experiences in the preservation of cultural heritage for the development of constructive inter-state cooperation, to take consistent steps to expand humanitarian cooperation in the CIS and in the world, to hold major cultural forums in Turkmenistan.

Tomorrow the conference will continue its work in the format of two sections: "The development of cultural relations and traditions in the XXI century" and "Material and spiritual heritage of Dashoguz region."

Tomorrow, the opening exhibition will be held in the framework of the forum in the Regional History Museum. The expositions are included arts and crafts, paintings of contemporary local artists. The masters of brush and canvas, executed in the style of different manner - architectural monuments Kunyaurgench, landscape sketches, scenes from the life of the people, portraits of his contemporaries.


Foreign guests can be familiarized with a collection of artifacts and rare books are an evidence of the abundant history and culture of the region saved in the Regional History Museum of the region. Today in the museum collections of more than 11 thousand exhibits, historical monuments, art and culture of the Turkmen people: archaeological findings, old folk costumes and musical instruments, beautiful rugs, household items and samples of traditional way of life of the Turkmen people.

A separate section of the exhibition will be dedicated to the works of well-known folk musicians, virtuoso artists, communicators of the Turkmen folk music and classical poetry. A hundred year period preserved exhibits are depicted representation of local folk art.
