The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the Global Gateway Forum

The progress in the implementation of the Global Gateway EU strategy was discussed by the participants of the forum held, in Brussels, on October 25-26, 2023.

The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the forum, which brought together heads and representatives of EU and partner governments, the private sector and other interested parties.

The Global Gateway Initiative was launched on December 1, 2021 as a new European strategy for the development of high-tech, environmentally friendly, safe and sustainable global connections in areas such as digitalization, energy, transport, healthcare, education and research.

Within the framework of the Global Gateway investment program, it is planned to support the economic and social development of EU partners by helping them to ensure better infrastructure connectivity, accelerate their green and digital transition and strengthen their basic infrastructure necessary to improve the health and education of their peoples.

In his speech at the forum, Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Serdar Jorayev described the current state and prospects for the development of our country’s infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of Turkmenistan’s international projects to diversify transport and energy routes to strengthen interregional connectivity and energy security. In this regard, there were identified a number of priority regional investment projects in the field of transport that may be of interest to Europe.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso to discuss the main directions and priorities of bilateral cooperation.

On the same day, with the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan, the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the EU and the International Trade Center on the implementation of the “Turkmenistan-EU: Increasing the Sustainability and Integration of Trade” Project took place. This joint project of the EU and ITC is destined to support Turkmenistan in the process of its accession to the WTO.

During the signing ceremony, the Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan noted the country’s active integration into the world trade system and highlighted the importance of measures taken by Turkmenistan to improve the country’s regulatory framework in accordance with WTO norms and standards.
