Under the order of the President of Turkmenistan, the delegation of the country, headed by B. Annamammedov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, has been dispatched to Vienna to participate in the 20th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and discuss issues of bilateral partnership in the fields of construction and industry, as well as to hold meetings with UNIDO leadership and the Vienna City Administration.

The 20th session of the General Conference, which is the highest policymaking organ of UNIDO, will take place from 27 November to 1 December 2023. It will be hosted in the UNIDO headquarters in Vienna as a hybrid event, involving both in-person and virtual participation.

As noted by the event organizers, in light of the current global realities, the mandate of UNIDO has increasingly grown in relevance to help strengthen the foundations for sustainable economic growth. Under the overarching theme “Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for the Industry of Tomorrow”, the GC.20 will reflect these transformative developments and aims to forge new pathways to sustainability, digital inclusivity and economic resilience.

Particular emphasis will be given to how inclusive and sustainable industrial development can support sustainable supply chains, limit the climate breakdown and contribute to ending hunger. The Conference serves a unique platform to take stock of progress made towards the achievement of inclusive and sustainable industrial development. It provides an opportunity for Member States to provide strategic guidance on the future of Organization, while also offering a forum for knowledge sharing and the fostering of industrial cooperation.

The Conference program includes a series of panel sessions and parallel events.
