The opening ceremony of the II Open International Olympiad in Informatics OIOIUS-2024 was held today at the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas.

The grand event, which took place in a hybrid format, was attended by representatives of the management and teaching staff of Turkmen and foreign universities. The main heroes of the celebration were students - talented experts in informatics from Turkmenistan and different countries.

This year, the Olympiad brought together more than 270 students from 52 universities of 18 countries around the world, including Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Iran, Libya, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, Romania, Georgia and China.

Bayrammyrat Atamanov, rector of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas, addressed the participants of event with his welcoming and congratulatory speech, and emphasized the significance of the Olympiad for the further development and strengthening of friendly relations and scientific-educational cooperation in the international academic space.

During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by rectors of the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov, the Euphrosyne Polotskaya State University of Polotsk, the China University of Petroleum, and other participants.

Wishing the students success and brilliant victories, the speakers expressed confidence that the international Olympiad would become an effective platform for the exchange of valuable experience and knowledge among youth, the search for friends and like-minded people, and a new impetus in achieving fruitful results of joint activities among participating countries. It was particularly emphasized that Turkmenistan's open cooperation with other countries, built on mutual understanding, trust and peace, is inseparably linked to the achievements of youth in the field of science and technology and the training of highly qualified specialists in the energy sector, who are called upon to continue the international dialogue and ensure a prosperous future for their countries.

The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was followed by a festive concert, during which songs were performed in different languages by students of the Mai Kuliyeva Turkmen National Conservatory and the "Gara altyn" (Black Gold) vocal and instrumental ensemble of the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas.

In the university foyer, event guests were treated to a colorful exhibition, prepared with the participation of employees of the Bazar Amanov State Children's Library and the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan.

The exhibition showcased national carpets, clothing, jewelry, paintings, bronze and ceramic works, enlightening the guests about the wealth and beauty of Turkmenistan's national traditions, culture and history. Visitors to the exhibition were also offered national treats.

The book exhibition presented literary works by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag and the Honorable President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. In honor of the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi, the exhibition also featured a book collection that included the works of the outstanding poet-classic and publications dedicated to his life and creativity.

The oil and gas university demonstrated all the hospitality inherent in the Turkmen people, organizing a warm meeting and a warm welcome of dear guests in the capital of Turkmenistan at a high level.

In the afternoon, the Olympiad began its work. It includes two rounds and is conducted as individual competitions. In the first round, participants are given five tasks related to solving practical problems using programming.

The second round of the Olympiad will take place on April 18. Students will be required to develop comprehensive software for solving cyber security problems.

The evaluation of student works will be carried out using a special program developed by the professors of the oil and gas university. The jury of the competition includes professors and teachers from Turkmen and foreign universities.

The results of the Olympiad will be announced on April 19. The winners and medalists of the Olympiad will be awarded medals, diplomas and valuable gifts. On this day, the university will host the International Scientific and Practical Conference and an exhibition titled "Students' Scientific Views in the period of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State", as well as a grand closing ceremony of the international events.

The guests of Ashgabat can look forward to a rich cultural and entertainment program, including visits to historical monuments, city attractions, national museums, and trade and entertainment centers of the Turkmen capital.
