Kyokushinkai is a style of karate founded by Masutatsu Oyama in the 1950s. Kyokushinkai is considered one of the most difficult and tough types of karate. Fights are held without protective equipment, where athletes have full contact during fights. The rules prohibit punches to the head.

Unlike many other types of karate, which use points for successful actions during sparring, Kyokushin uses the rules of «knockdowns» and «knockouts», called «wazari» and «ippon», respectively, which the fighter receives for successfully performing various techniques.
