This year, in a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Turkmen literature «Magtymguly Fragi» and in his honour, a new cultural and park complex of the capital was opened in the foothills of the «Kopetdag». It is symbolic that this large-scale object, in addition to the majestic monument to Magtymguly, includes an alley of famous poets and philosophers from different countries and epochs, which emphasises its importance in the context of friendship between peoples and the unity of the cultural heritage of mankind.

On the territory of the park complex there are 24 monuments to world-famous writers and poets from around the world. The editors of the «Golden Age» considered it right, if possible, to acquaint the reader, especially children and youth, with the life and work of outstanding personalities whose monuments adorn Magtymguly Alley. This is also important because some of the geniuses of their time presented here visited Turkmenistan. «GA», publishing information about them, does not in any way pretend to fully cover materials about this or that person, especially since after a lot of time, not much information has been preserved about many of them.

Our today's short story is about the famous English poet and playwright William Shakespeare.

William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire in England. His father, John Shakespeare, was a prominent man in Stratford (according to some sources, he traded in leather goods) and held various positions in the city government, including bailiff (estate manager). Mother was the daughter of a small nobleman from Warwickshire, who came from an ancient family of Catholic Ardens. William was the third child in the family, he had two older sisters and three younger brothers.

Researchers of Shakespeare's life and work suggest that he received his education first at Stratford Grammar School, and then continued his studies at the school of King Edward the Sixth. At the age of eighteen he starts a family. His chosen one is a girl named Anne. The writer's family had three children. The knowledge of seamanship shown in Shakespeare's plays has led some researchers to speculate that he was a sailor for some time. At the age of 20, Shakespeare leaves his hometown and moves to London. His life there is not easy: in order to earn money, he is forced to agree to any work in the theatre.

Then he is trusted to play small roles. In 1603, his plays appeared on the stage of the theater and Shakespeare became a co-owner of a troupe called the King's Men. William Shakespeare's financial condition is becoming much better.

The writer's first book was published in 1594. She brought him success, money and recognition. Despite this, the writer continues to work in the theatre.

Shakespeare's literary work can be divided into four periods. At an early stage he creates comedies and poems. At this time, he wrote such works as «The Two Gentlemen of Verona», «The Taming of the Shrew», «The Comedy of Errors». Later, romantic works appeared: «A Midsummer Night’s Dream», «The Merchant of Venice». The most profound philosophical books appear in the third period of his work. It was during these years that Shakespeare created the plays Hamlet, Othello, and King Lear. The master's latest works are characterized by refined style and elegant poetic skill. «Antony and Cleopatra» and «Coriolanus» are the pinnacle of poetic art.

The talent and genius of the great classic is an indisputable fact. As the famous poet T. S. Eliot said: «Shakespeare’s plays will always be modern».

In April 1616, William Shakespeare died in Stratford. The playwright was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, where he had previously been baptised.

During Shakespeare's lifetime, his works were not collected. Poems and a collection of sonnets were published separately.

William Shakespeare is considered the greatest English playwright, one of the best playwrights in the world. His plays have been translated into all major languages and to this day form the basis of the world theatrical repertoire. Most of them have been filmed many times.

The works of William Shakespeare have been translated and performed on the stage of Turkmen theaters since the 50s of the last century.
