Representatives of Turkmenistan participate in training on intangible cultural heritage

Employees of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the National Commission for UNESCO are participating in a training course on preparing nomination files for the Lists of the 2003 Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The event is taking place from the 20th to 23rd of August in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic). The participants include representatives of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The training course examines the concept of «intangible cultural heritage» in the context of the 2003 UNESCO Convention, and also studies the features of the organization's various lists, such as the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, and the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices.

The features of the aforementioned lists are analyzed using the example of nomination files representing elements of the cultural heritage of Central Asian countries. Issues related to identifying the causes of the unbalanced representation of Central Asian countries in these lists and preparing joint multinational nomination files are also discussed.

The aim of the training is to train national experts of intangible cultural heritage to prepare high-quality nomination files and develop the necessary conceptual and technical skills, which will ensure more effective presentation of nominations at the international level.

The event is held within the framework of the project «Silk Roads Heritage Corridors in Central Asia - the International Dimension of the European Year of Cultural Heritage». The organizers are the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Aigine Cultural Research Centre, which is accredited as a non-profit organization under the UNESCO Convention of 2003.
