The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the head of the State Migration Service and the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, is taking part in the 75th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Chairman of the State Migration Service in his speech spoke about the implementation by Turkmenistan of the tasks outlined in the National Action Plan for the Elimination of Statelessness for 2019-2024. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva also emphasized the active role of the country in addressing statelessness issues . In this regard, he focused on the signing of key UNHCR documents by Turkmenistan.

It should also be noted that Turkmenistan has the practice of granting citizenship to refugees and stateless persons, biometric identification of refugees and stateless persons. The country was the first in Central Asia to join the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness . In his speech, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for the successful completion of the #IBELONG campaign aimed at eradicating statelessness. He noted the efforts of Turkmenistan, which serve as an example for other states. Grandi also expressed confidence that Turkmenistan will continue to promote its humanitarian initiatives.
