Events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi were held in the Republic of Poland

During the period of 22-26 November 2024, representatives of Turkmenistan’s National Commission for UNESCO, as well as science and education sector visited the city of Poznań in the Republic of Poland.

On 23 November, the delegation of Turkmenistan met with professors and teachers of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poland in accordance with the planned cultural programme.

During the meeting, speeches were heard about the work carried out under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan aimed at in-depth study of the rich literary heritage of the Turkmen people, as well as the works of Magtymguly Fragi, which are of global significance. Special emphasis was placed on intensifying scientific cooperation between Turkmen and Polish scientists, professors and teachers in bringing Turkmen history, language and literature, valuable creative heritage of Magtymguly to the European scientific community.

It is worthwhile to note that the Central Library of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poland and the library of the Faculty of History and Archaeology hold many books related to the poetic world of Magtymguly, history and literature of the Turkmen people, a number of which belong to Polish scientists.

On the same day, the delegation of Turkmenistan visited the Museum of History and Archaeology in Poznan, where they learnt about the ancient history and achievements in archaeology of the country.

Representatives of Turkmenistan’s science and education sector also met with European scientists. During the meeting, they discussed issues related to the preservation and study of manuscripts, as well as the implementation of joint projects.

On 25 November 2024, in honor of the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi, the International Scientific Conference “Literary and Philosophical Heritage of the Great Turkmen Poet Magtymguly Fragi as a cultural bridge between Asia and Europe” was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Federal Republic of Germany, the University of Communications and Management in Poznan and the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poland.

The event was attended by Ch. Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, scientists of the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, faculty members of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the University of Communications and Management in Poznan, Adam Mickiewicz University, European researchers of the East, as well as students.

In the speeches the role of Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi in the national and world literature was emphasized. The study of the poet’s creative heritage, as well as the work of Turkmen and Polish scientists related to the joint translation activities of the poet’s works in recent years were touched upon.

During the event, the poems of the classic of Turkmen literature were read in Turkmen and Polish. The event also included an exhibition of values and items of national heritage, books and publications about Magtymguly Fragi.

During the working visit, round tables with the participation of the Turkmen delegation and trips to historical and cultural sites of the country were organized.
