During the session of the Government on September 8, R. Meredov, the Vice Premier and Foreign Minister made the report on the preparation to the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Head of the MFA stated the priority positions of our country that would be presented during the forum of the United Nations in New York. Support of universal peace, security and stability is outlined as the key vector of the activity of Turkmenistan during coming event. In this regard, it is proposed to attach special attention to consolidation of the efforts with the partners in the counteracting against the terrorism. Particularly, our country stands for activation of multilateral partnership for achievement of the goals of Ashgabat Declaration adopted by the outcomes of the Central Asia – the UN High-Level Dialog on implementation of the UN Global Counterterrorism strategy in the Central Asia.
Besides, Turkmenistan assigns an important role to preventive diplomacy and pays great importance to the activity of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in the Central Asia. In this context, it will be proposed to review the opportunity of elaboration and adoption of the Resolution during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly for support of the mechanisms of preventive diplomacy in solution of topical issues for provision of peace and security.
Activation of the work of the world community in provision of global cyber security taking into account modern realities of the world, which development is accompanied by breaking achievements in IT sphere, was also named among the main initiatives.
Further consolidation of the partnership for the achievement of the Goals of Sustainable Development will be the priority vector of the activity of our country in international arena. At the same time, it was noted that the main role in establishment of the base, which is necessary for efficient implementation of the GSD, would be given to the Scientific and Practical Centre established under the Institute of International Relations.
Highlighting the significance of sports as an important factor of sustainable development, Turkmenistan, resting upon the Final Declaration of International Sports Congress “2017 Asian Games: International Sports Cooperation and for Peace and Development” that was published as an official document of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, will submit the proposals on organization of the 7th International Conference of Ministers and Leading Personnel responsible for physical training education and sports in our country under the UN aegis.
Turkmenistan has defined the intensification of international economic cooperation as one of the most important directions of its foreign activity during the coming session of the UN General Assembly. For this purpose, the priority will be given to the matters of the development of energy sphere and transport and communication systems. Thus, our state will propose an active support to implementation of the solutions on formation of new and intensification of the operation of existing international transport and transit corridors adopted by the initiative of Turkmenistan by the world community.
Having highlighted the importance of Ashgabat declaration adopted by the outcomes of the UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference in November of 2016, the Vice Premier informed that Turkmenistan suggests reviewing the opportunity of elaboration of the Resolution of the Development of communication between all transports for the achievement of the Goals of Sustainable Development at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
In the coming session, Turkmenistan will take an active part in the work for formation of organizational, legal, economic, technical and other conditions that are necessary for diversification of energy sources and routes of energy supply.
Initiative support of international partnership in ecological sphere is a special feature if foreign policy course of the country. During the session of the General Assembly, our country will also actively participate in international efforts for solution of important issues of environment protection, water resources management, prevention and mitigation of the natural and anthropogenic catastrophes consequences.
Taking into account the Charing of Turkmenistan in International Fund for Saving of Aral Sea ((IFAS), it is proposed to hold the summit of the heads of countries founders of the IFAS with participation of specialized international structures like the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environmental Programme (the UNEP), the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in the Central Asia in 2018.
Having stated with delight the strategic character of cooperation of Turkmenistan with the United Nations and its structural divisions, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that we see the coming forum of the United Nations as an important stage in consolidation of international efforts for solution of the key issues of the present, assertion of the leading role of the UN in protection and consolidation of universal peace, stability and security, successful realization of the objectives outlined in the Agenda of sustainable development until 2030.
