An innovative method of mixed restoration of tugai forest ecosystems has been tested

On the territory of the Amudarya State Nature Reserve, a tree planting campaign was held as a part of the project "Conservation and sustainable management of land resources and ecosystems of high natural value in the Aral Sea basin to obtain numerous benefits."

The campaign tested an innovative mixed forest ecosystem restoration. This approach combines natural and artificial methods of forest ecosystem restoration, including protection and stimulation of the growth of existing young trees and shrubs.

Tugai represent a unique type of ecosystem. They should be considered as a natural reserve of peculiar flora and fauna. In this regard, and also, taking into account the environmental and water protection role of tugai, they have to be in unconditional protection and restoration. Promoting natural regeneration is the most effective way to restore tugai forests. It is aimed at creating favorable conditions for the germination of seeds and self-sowing.
