The National Micronutrient Survey Among Women and Children has been completed in Turkmenistan

The Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), conducted the National Micronutrient Survey among women and children in Turkmenistan.

Data was collected from 2,672 households across all regions of the country.

This comprehensive study examined the prevalence of various forms of micronutrient deficiencies and risk factors among women and children in Turkmenistan.

The survey report includes a detailed analysis of feeding practices, dietary diversity, the prevalence of anemia, and deficiencies in key micronutrients such as iodine, folic acid, iron, and vitamins A and D. The results reflect progress in nutrition over recent years and highlight key areas for further attention.

The study demonstrated a reduction in anemia levels among non-pregnant women of reproductive age and children aged 6 to 59 months compared to data from the 2011 National Micronutrient Survey. The results indicate that households consume adequately iodized salt and fortified wheat flour, which reflects the ongoing implementation of universal salt iodization (USI) and international standards for flour fortification.

Improving the nutrition and health status of children and women remains a key priority for the Government of Turkmenistan.
