On January 28, 2024, the UN Office at Geneva hosted a meeting with the heads of the diplomatic corps and international organizations based in Geneva.
The event was organized by Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva. Vepa Hajiyev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office at Geneva, participated in the event.
The meeting brought together representatives of public and non-governmental organizations, media and the academic community. In her speech, Tatiana Valovaya outlined prospects for further cooperation. She emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and dialogue in the face of modern global challenges. Ms. Valovaya highlighted the significance of collective efforts to build trust between states and noted the role of multilateral diplomacy in achieving these goals.
The next speaker was David Fernandez Puyana, Permanent Observer of the University for Peace (UPEACE) to the United Nations. In his address, he spoke about the importance of peace, trust and dialogue, especially during these challenging times. In this context, he specifically highlighted Turkmenistan's contribution to upholding these values.
Mr. Puyana also reminded attendees that 2025 was declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust" at Turkmenistan's initiative, as per a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly. He stressed the importance of this initiative for the global community.
In his speech, Vepa Hajiyev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office at Geneva, focused on the relevance of peace and trust as themes. He provided detailed information about Turkmenistan's efforts in this direction and emphasized the symbolic significance of 2025 for Turkmenistan, as it marks the 30th anniversary of its status as a Permanently Neutral State—an achievement repeatedly reaffirmed by UN General Assembly resolutions.
Ambassador Hajiyev also noted that Turkmenistan's neutrality serves as a foundation for promoting dialogue, strengthening international cooperation, and ensuring sustainable peace.
The Geneva event became an important platform for discussing prospects for cooperation, exchanging views, and strengthening dialogue between states and international organizations. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts aimed at maintaining peace, trust and stability on a global scale.
