The “Green School” program is being implemented in Turkmenistan

Cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Office in Turkmenistan is expanding with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the joint “Green School” program.

This innovative program, the first of its kind in Central Asia, aims to transform participating schools into sustainable, energy-efficient learning environments.

The realization of the “Green School” program provides for the implementation of the principles of sustainable development into all aspects of school life: from the interactive educational process to the energy efficiency of educational institutions. It is aimed at the motivation of children to develop creative solutions of environmental challenges, the development of their responsible attitude to nature. The program is designed to reduce the carbon trace of educational institutions, creating a healthier space for learning.

Teachers will be trained to integrate climate education into the curriculum, while students will be responsible for projects on waste reduction, renewable energy and ecosystem conservation.

The initiative, as a component of the education system, ensures that the fight against climate change will become training throughout life.

Participants who successfully implement the Green School program will be awarded the relevant certificates.

The representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan, Jalpa Ratna, noted that this initiative reflects Turkmenistan's commitment to Sustainable development Goals and its proactive approach to building communities resilient to climate change. She also highlights the shared vision of UNICEF and the Ministry of Education as a driving force for sustainable development.
