The creative team of the National Music and Drama Theater named after Makhtumkuli has prepared the performance "Gurbannazar Ezizov". For numerous fans of the poet's work, this is a significant event.
The authors of the play are brothers - Khydyr and Ilyas Amangeldyevs, who lived next to the family of Gurbannazar Ezizov and were neighbors in his house. It is noteworthy that the poet's eldest daughter - Yazgul Ezizova for a long time considered the brothers as her relatives.
Gurbannazar Ezizov was an extremely happy man. He had everything –talent, friends, and the recognition of his contemporaries. The only thing the poet dreamed of was his son. And the son was born... on the 40th day after his father's death.
Director Mekan Dzhumabayev, before starting the production of the play, re-read the poetry of Gurbannazar Ezizov and came to the conclusion that the poet had a premonition of his early demise. Through the prism of this content, M. Dzhumabaev built the entire plot of the play. He started from childhood, namely with a major quarrel between his father and his grandfather, a mullah, who had a stretcher in his house for the funeral ceremony. The poet's father believed that this would inevitably bring them misfortune and one day decided to chop the stretcher into firewood. But then Gurbannazar intervened, reminding his father that people needed stretchers.
This episode from childhood was recalled by the poet when he met the angel of death at the last moment of his life. The angel respected the poet and allowed him to review his entire life. The play "Gurbannazar Ezizov" is a story about the poet's life, based on the poem "The Night Guest". The guest is the angel of death, who in the play is represented not by an old man in white oriental robes, but by a man who looks like an average office worker.
The audience will see scenes of the poet's student life, conscription, marriage, communication with his daughters - Yazgul, Arzigul, Shohragul and Ogulabat. An impressive episode was the art council, where the young poet was reproached by his elders for frequently referring to the topic of non-existence. But his friends, who loved Gurbannazar's poems and tried to support the poet in every possible way, helped him to distract himself from sad thoughts after the artistic councils. Among them were the brilliant composer Nury Khalmamedov and the aspiring singer Atageldi Garyagdiev.
Actor Bairamkhan Gayirov, in the role of Atageldi Garyagdiev, performed a popular song based on the words of Gurbannazar Ezizov and the music of Nury Khalmamedov "The Expanses of Turkmenistan". There are no dialogues in the play, instead there are poems by the poet and songs performed by the choir.
"I was deeply touched by the director's decision in the last scene," says Yazgul, the eldest daughter of Gurbannazar Ezizov, commenting on the production. – The dad’s soul has already ascended to heaven, but his son Serdar was born, and the dad descended to earth in a white robe to hug his heir to his chest. At this moment, the "Lullaby" sounds, the poems for which dad composed in the hope of the birth of a boy. I could not hold back the feelings that overwhelmed me, and tears rolled down my cheeks. And one more thing. On behalf of our entire family, I would like to express my gratitude for the performance staged this year. In March of this year, my father would have turned 85 years, and in September, it would have been 50 years since he passed away. Over these years, there have been radical changes in the life of our country, but Gurbannazar Ezizov is still an idol for all generations of Turkmen people who love poetry.
