By its reserves of oil and gas Turkmenistan, rightly enters the list of world energy powers of the world. By the estimations of he international and local experts, its raw material resources make up 71, 2 billion tons of standard fuel.
The fuel-energy complex (FEC) is a basic segment of industry of Turkmenistan and plays an important role in development of all branches of economy of the country. In the structure of industry at present, the share of the fuel-energy complex makes up 80%. The intensive development of the fuel-energy complex is one of the priority directions to raise competiveness of economy of Turkmenistan. The fuel-energy complex makes a notable influence on formation of the state budget, export opportunities, energy security of the country. The complex includes the successfully functioning enterprises of power energy, gas and oil branches.
In power energy of Turkmenistan lately the production capacities have been remarkably grown and function a number of modern power energy stations equipped with installation of new generations. All power stations of the state power distribution system work on their natural gas. At present, the energy system of the country possesses 10 power stations and 32 turbines. Enterprises of power energy system continue demonstration of stable high indices of production of power energy. Within 11 months of 2013 the generation of power energy made up 18,8 billion kilowatt hours and as compared with the relevant period in 2012 it has grown by 4,2%.
The backbone of the fuel-energy complex is formed by gas industry, which occupies more than half of the industrial volume of the country. Moreover, it possesses enterprises of gas mining and gas processing. At present, in the gas branch an active work is carried out to prospect, survey, and industrial development of new fields with introduction of innovative highly efficient technologies at all stage of industrial process beginning from discovery, prospecting, ,exploitation of fields, transportation and ending with processing of hydrocarbons, and delivery to consumers as readymade goods. The super-giant field of “Galkynysh” which was commissioned into operation in September 2013 can serve an example for it and its resource reserve makes up 26, 2 trillion cubic meters of gas, which brings Turkmenistan to the fourth place in the world for its gas reserve.
At present, the activities of construction of the gas pipeline “East-West” which was given a start in 2010, are continued at a rapid pace and it is called to make a blue ring to connect all large deposits of the country. The commissioning of the new gas pipeline will provide additional opportunities for realization of export of natural gas to international energy markets.
Formation of diversified routes of delivery of natural to foreign markets is a top priority for development of the gas complex of Turkmenistan. At present, the design work of the gas pipeline TAPI is carried out at rapid pace and its realization will further strengthen position of Turkmenistan in the natural gas market of the Asian region. In particular, in May, 2012 within the framework of the Third International Gas Congress there was signed an agreement on purchase and sale of natural gas with national companies of India and Pakistan. In July, 2013, there was signed the contract on purchase and sale of natural gas between the state concern “Turkmengaz” and the Afghan gas corporation and in August it was completely agreed to speed up the implementation of the project TAPI and decide the related issues on it.
The successful development of gas processing industry is connected with the commissioning of new gas processing facilities. Within the framework of industrial development of deposit “Galkynysh” at its first stage this year, there have been commissioned gas processing plants with a total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. The signing of framework agreements on construction of fuel oil and petrol producing plants within the official visit of the president of Turkmenistan to Japan in September 2013 has another important step made in this direction.
An important direction of diversification of gas branch is creation of new highly efficient facilities with more deep processing capacities for raw natural gas. So, in September, 2013 within the framework of the Turkmen-Japan relations there was signed a trilateral contract on construction of a gas chemical complex in Turkmenistan for manufacture of polyethylene and polypropylene , framework agreement on designing and turn-key construction of a plant for manufacture of ammonium and carbamide in town of Garabogaz of Balkan velayat. Arrangement of the given industries will enable to satisfy the demand of the home market as well as to create enough export resources.
In the petroleum industry construction of oil fields ,modernization of production infrastructures of oil industries are carried on at rapid pace with a view of increase in oil production. In the 11 months of 2013 as compared with same period of 2012, oil production including gas condensate has grown by 1, 7%. The rise in oil production is achieved at the expense of application of the most innovative technologies and other technological novelties capable of increasing oil production rate.
In the oil processing industry represented by Turkmenbashy complex of oil processing plants positive results have been achieved in increase of production volume of goods, improvement of assortment of goods and quality of goods complying the world standards. At Turkmenbashy complex of oil processing plants realization of production-oriented innovative projects and transport infrastructure projects is continued. Goods of oil processing industry make up a significant part of export turnover of Turkmenistan.
Achievement of high rates of development of the fuel-energy complex is a basis of intensified industrial and innovative development of all branches of economy and confirmation of the stable status of Turkmenistan as one of the leaders of the international energy powers.
