Considering modern realities and current trends in world development, Turkmenistan is consistently expanding multifaceted cooperation with international organizations. The next step in this direction will be the signing of new documents on a number of specialized projects with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in whose activities special attention is paid to an environmentally safe economy and industry. As noted at a government meeting on January 28, mutually with this structure, specific projects are being implemented on a systematic basis, aimed at fulfilling Turkmenistan's obligations under the Montreal Protocol on Substances, that destroy the Ozone Layer and the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer. Further development of this cooperation will strengthen the important role, that the country plays in the implementation of inclusive and sustainable industrialization in its region.

Under the auspices of UNIDO and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the UN Center for Climate Change Technologies, established in Copenhagen, operates with which Turkmenistan plans to establish systemic interaction. As known, our country is consistently promoting the initiative to establish in Ashgabat under the auspices of the UN Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies, and is one of the first UN member states to accept the National Climate Change Strategy. The national priorities of Turkmenistan are in line with the perspective global trends outlined in the Industrial Development Report 2022 (IDR) “The Future of Industrialization in a Post-Pandemic World”, presented at the plenary session of the nineteenth session of the UNIDO General Conference in December last year. It states that the industrial sector plays a key role in raising social and economic resilience. According to the report, digital technologies allow enterprises to continue to work remotely and support their consumer base, enabling digital companies to better endure the impact of the pandemic and adjust to the new reality. Thus, preparing for a post-pandemic future requires developing countries to further strengthen their digital capabilities.

Looking to the future, IDR 2022 highlights three important megatrends that are expected to shape the post-pandemic landscape — digitalization, manufacturing rebalancing, and industrial greening — and emphasized that countries should consider these megatrends when designing recovery strategies. According to the UNIDO report, recovery must be green and inclusive, following a more sustainable and safer development path.
