Another five medals - one gold and four bronze - were added to the collection of the Turkmenistan team at the ongoing Asian Sambo Championship in the Lebanese city of Jounieh. On the second day of the competition, they were won by masters of combat sambo.
Babajan Ivadullaev became the champion of Asia. It is noteworthy that it took a 29-year-old athlete from Turkmenistan a total of no more than 3 minutes to win this title in the heavyweight weight category over 98 kg, in which 6 sambists competed. In the first fight, which turned out to be a semi-final due to a lucky draw, he won an early victory over Alim Murtazakulov from Uzbekistan in 1 minute 26 seconds, and in the final he defeated Talasbek Nuraliev from Kyrgyzstan in 56 seconds.
Bronze medals were awarded to Meilis Niyazmenliev (up to 64 kg), Muhammetniyaz Gurbandurdyev (up to 71 kg), Rusdem Penjiev (up to 79 kg) and Charymyrat Annakurbanov (up to 98 kg).
On the way to the podium, Meilis Niyazmenliev and Muhammetniyaz Gurbandurdyev won respectively in 1 minute 38 seconds against Ahmed Al-Tabawi (Iraq) and Alaibek Umotov (Kyrgyzstan) - 6:4, but lost to Bahodir Bakiyev (up to 64 kg) from Uzbekistan in the semi-final - 0:3 and Asset Anarbaev (up to 71 kg) from Kazakhstan - 1:6. And Rusdem Penjiev and Charymyrat Annakurbanov lost in fights for reaching the final, respectively, to the Kyrgyz masters of combat sambo, Dayarbek Karyaev and Bekbolsun Kerimbekov.
Following the results of two days of competition, the team of Turkmenistan with 10 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze) takes the fourth place in the medal standings.
