The entire podium was occupied by Turkmen racers in the standings of off-road vehicles of the “T2 over 1000 km” discipline at the completed “Silk Way 2022” rally-raid. The auto marathon passed through the territory of Russia with a start in Astrakhan and a finish in Moscow.
The “Silk Way” Rally-raid has been held since 2009 and is considered one of the most difficult in the world. This year, the participants covered almost 4.5 thousand kilometers, of which 2,786 km were high-speed sections, where the crews had to demonstrate not only their speed, but also avoid mistakes in navigation and driving cars and motorcycles. The ceremonial finish took place in Luzhniki. And not all the favorites, who were predicted to win, ended up on the top steps of the podium.
So, in the standings of serial SUVs, where five crews, including four from Turkmenistan, went to the start, the Russian crew on the LADA NIVA Legend car driven by Dmitriy Voronov and Evgeniy Zagorodnyuk was considered the race favorite. However, at the very beginning of the race, Voronov lost a huge amount of time, and despite a series of several victories on special stages, he failed to reach the top three.
As a result, the first three places in the overall standings were taken by the crews of the Automobile Sports Federation of Turkmenistan in Nissan Patrol cars. On the top step of the podium with a time of 48 hours 47 minutes 25 seconds - pilot Merdan Toylyyev and navigator Shohrat Toylyyev. For them, this victory was the first in the prestigious marathon. Shamyrat Gurbanov (pilot) and Muhammetmyrat Gurbanov (navigator) lost 7 minutes and 47 seconds to them. Maksatmyrat Danatarov (pilot) and Didar Orazmedov (navigator) were behind the winners by 3 hours 59 minutes and 44 seconds, closing the top three.
