The two-day open international tournament among diplomats, to which their family members, students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and some representatives of sponsors were also invited, ended on Saturday in Ashgabat. The venue was the Chess and Drafts School.

The organizers of the competition, which was timed to coincide with the 44th World Chess Olympiad in the Indian city of Chennai from July 28 to August 10, 2022, were the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Embassy of India in Ashgabat and the Chess Federation of our country.

The tournament, which was held according to the Swiss system in 7 rounds, was attended by over 30 chess fans from a dozen different embassies and international organizations represented in Ashgabat.

The winners were determined in different categories.

According to the press release of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, Annagozel Mekanova, a 4th year student of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, excelled in the overall standings with a 100% result - 7 points out of 7 possible. Five chess players fell behind her by 2 points, sharing 2nd-6th places. According to additional indicators, the future diplomat Azim Yangibaev became the silver medalist. The representative of the HIL-TM company Isaguly Rzagulyev closed the top three. The six strongest included the diplomat of the Armenian Embassy Arshak Gevorgyan, the diplomat of the US Embassy Brian Davis and the consul of the Embassy of India Sunil Raj Kumar Mallapragada.

In the women's competition, IIR students Akgozel Rasulova and Bakhar Choganova took 1st and 2nd places, respectively, and Elina Larina, an employee of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy, won the third place.

The team competition was won by the family of Geldy Muradov, an employee of the UN Office in Turkmenistan, and two of his daughters were awarded prizes in the children's category under 14 years old.

The winners and prize-winners at the awards ceremony received prizes from the sponsors of the tournament. In turn, the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, on behalf of the organizers, presented certificates of gratitude to sponsors and volunteers.
