Turkmen weightlifter becomes champion of Islamiada with two Games records

Weightlifter Gulnabat Kadyrova brought three medals - two gold and one bronze - to the team of Turkmenistan at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games taking place in the Turkish city of Konya.

In the non-Olympic weight category up to 71 kg, the 28-year-old pupil of the honored coach of Turkmenistan Ahmed Saryeva won gold in the snatch (107 kg), bronze in the clean and jerk (118 kg) and became the champion of the Islamiada with a result of 225 kg in the biathlon.

In the final protocol, our compatriot was 9 kg ahead of second Aysel Ozkan (Turkey) - 216 kg (snatch - 95, clean and jerk - 121) and 15 kg ahead of bronze medalist Resta Anggi (Indonesia) - 210 kg (90 +120).

In addition, during the competition, Gulnabat Kadyrova updated two records of the Islamic Solidarity Games in the snatch (107 kg) and biathlon (225 kg). The first is now also a new record for Turkmenistan, and the second is a repetition of the national achievement that she set at last year's World Championships in Tashkent, taking 9th place among 25 athletes with a result of 225 kg (101 + 124).

This is the second major success of Gulnabat at the Islamiada. At the previous Games in Baku in the weight category up to 69 kg, she took second place with a result of 214 kg (99 + 115), losing 5 kg to Anastasia Ibrahimli from Azerbaijan. However, later it became known that doping was found in the blood of the Azerbaijani weightlifter, the winner of the Islamic Games-2017, as a result of which she was disqualified, and G. Kadyrova moved from second to first place.

Six years ago, Gulnabat made her debut at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where with a result of 195 kg (90 + 105) she took 13th place in the weight category up to 69 kg. And last year, at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, she became the second in the weight up to 71 kg, gaining 223 kg (102 + 121) in total exercises.

Currently, Gulnabat Kadyrova combines weightlifting with the work of a coach at the 1st sports school of the Gurbansoltan eje etrap, Dashoguz velayat.

Another medal was brought to the team of Turkmenistan by 21-year-old weightlifter Dovranbek Khasanbaev (weight category up to 96 kg). A student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports won a small silver award in the snatch (165 kg), losing 2 kg to Reza Beyralvand (Iran) and winning 1 kg from Sunnatilla Usarov (Uzbekistan), who closed the top three in this exercise.

In the clean and jerk, Dovranbek showed the fifth result (183 kg) and as a result, with a total of 348 kg, he took fourth place, losing only 1 kg to the bronze medalist of the Games, Ali Alotman from Saudi Arabia (snatch - 157 kg, clean and jerk - 192 kg). Sunnatilla Usarov from Uzbekistan climbed to the second step of the podium - 254 kg (164 + 190). And the champion of the V Games of Islamic Solidarity with three gold medals in this weight was the Iranian Reza Beyralvand - 361 kg (167 + 194).

It is noteworthy that this was the first international start of D. Khasanbaev, who trains under the guidance of the head coach of the national team of Turkmenistan Mansur Rejepov.
