More than twelve and a half thousand people are involved in the production of silkworm cocoons in Dashoguz velayat this year. All of them were timely provided with grains of high-quality silkworms, all necessary conditions were created everywhere for the successful procurement of valuable raw materials for the domestic textile industry.
This made it possible to begin the delivery of cocoons in an acceptable time for the region, where due to climatic conditions, the responsible agricultural campaign starts later than in other parts of the country. In general, five hundred tons of cocoons are planned to be harvested in Dashoguz velayat this year. Farmers of Shavat etrap, Akdepe etrap and Goroglu etrap are among the major suppliers of important products.
Sericulture is one of the successfully developing branches of agricultural production in the northern region of Turkmenistan, where many years of experience in the production of mulberry cocoons has been accumulated. The comprehensive measures, consistently taken by the state to further develop the industry, and financial incentives for producers help to maintain the interest of villagers in this area. Important factors for a successful campaign are the availability of sufficient fodder, the total area of mulberry plantations exceeds two thousand hectares in the region, as well as the growing skill of silkworm breeders in velayat over the years.
