11 medals - two gold, one silver and eight bronze - were won by athletes of Turkmenistan at the 8th WKF Karate Championship of Central Asia held in Bishkek.
The competition brought together 225 athletes from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, who competed for 33 sets of medals in the disciplines of kata (demonstration of formal exercises) and kumite (fights) in three age categories: cadets (14-15 years old), juniors (16-17 years old), adults (18 years and older).
According to the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports, the team of our country was represented by 24 athletes at the tournament.
The highest awards were won in individual kata among juniors by Islam Annaorazov, a student of the 10th grade of the 1st specialized secondary school of the Gokdepe etrap, Ahal velayat, and in the kumite among cadets, by a student of the 11th grade of the 20th secondary school of the Bayramaly etrap, Mary velayat, Gurbannazar Gurbannazarov (weight category up to 63 kg).
A 4th year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Arzuv Seyitgulyyev climbed to the second step of the podium in the kumite discipline in weight up to 55 kg.
Bronze medals were awarded to: in the individual kata - a student of the 8th grade of the 8th secondary school of the Gokdepe etrap of the Ahal velayat Perhat Atamyradov among cadets and a 3rd year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports Didar Babayev among adults, and in kumite - a student of the 9th grade of the 55th secondary schools of Ashgabat Erkin Taganov (up to 52 kg among cadets), a student of the 10th grade of the 45th secondary school of Ashgabat Rovshen Atayev (up to 55 kg among juniors), a student of the 10th grade of the 111th secondary school of Ashgabat Dayanch Orazdurdyyev (over 76 kg among juniors), 1st year student of the Institute of International Relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan Yusup Garajayev (up to 55 kg), 2nd year student of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of MFA of Turkmenistan Davut Nazmyradov (up to 84 kg) and teacher of the martial arts department of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Shanepes Hudayberdiyev (over 84 kg).
