An exhibition of works by Turkmen artists dedicated to the upcoming 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly, a Turkmen classic of poetry and philosophy, has been launched at the exhibition centre of the Department of Art Exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.

One of the most impressive paintings exhibited in the center is the work of Yalkap Charyyev «Magtymguly Pyragy», which he was inspired to write by lines from the poet’s poem: «If we served one state...». Magtymguly saw a single state for the Turkmens as a path to peace and prosperity. The painting is made with acrylic paints, making the painting look like a poster.

The exhibition contains many paintings depicting famous events from the life of Magtymguly. For example, the Turkmen poet’s visit to the Great Silk Road bazaar in India is depicted in an easel painting by Kumush Bayramgulyyeva. The poet examines overseas goods with interest. In the background you can see the Lahore Gate to Delhi.

Another indisputable fact taken from the poet’s life is Magtymguly’s walk among the Moon Mountains.

The Moon Mountains - this is one of the wonders of the world - is located very close to the birthplace of Magtymguly - the village of Gerkez, and, of course, the poet repeatedly walked between the fantastic mountain heights. The artist Allaberdi Atadurdyyev took this plot for his painting. The Garrygala region, where the poet was born and raised, today bears his name. The Magtymguly etrap surprises with its unique beauty, and artists, depicting particularly attractive places on canvas, involuntarily imply the presence of a classic of Turkmen poetry here.

One of these paintings is «Foothills of the Kopetdag» by Saparmammet Meredov, depicting a giant tree with a flock of mountain goitered gazelles running past.

In the central part of the exhibition is a painting by Bahar Rejepova, on which stands the monument to Magtymguly, erected to the poet in the foothills of the Kopetdag south of the capital. The painting itself is made in the form of a triptych. This 80-meter monument personifies the special respect of the Turkmen people for the great poet.

It is noteworthy that the authors of all works are students of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan.

The exhibition at the centre of the Department of Art Exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan is one of the first events organized in 2024, declared the Year of «The Fount of Wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi».
