International Youth Day, which is celebrated annually on August 12, was widely celebrated in Turkmenistan. Up to 100 young people gathered at the "Arkach" shopping and entertainment center to emphasize their role in development and peacebuilding.
They enhanced their knowledge in media literacy and gender equality and discussed the importance of ensuring digital security. The highlight of the celebration was performances by young gymnasts and an energetic flash mob.
The holiday was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 17, 1999, following the proposal of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, which took place in Lisbon from August 8 to 12, 1998.
International Youth Day was first celebrated on August 12, 2000. The theme for the 2024 celebration is "Youth and Innovation: Creating the Future."
