The International Day of the Caspian Sea, celebrated annually on the 12th of August in the «Avaza» National Tourist Zone, has become a noble tradition, within the framework of which various events are held to strengthen mutual understanding and multilateral cooperation in the region. In his address to the participants of the scientific and practical conference «The Caspian Sea: Partnership for Sustainable Development», President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan, guided by the policy of positive neutrality, consistently makes efforts to turn the Caspian Sea into a sea of peace, trust and friendship. Our country is committed to building up close contacts between the Caspian littoral states in energy, transport and logistics, industry and trade.
Noting that the protection of the marine environment is an urgent area of cooperation between the «Caspian Five», the head of Turkmenistan called on the countries of the region and interested international structures to continue joint research to preserve the unique ecosystem and biological diversity of the Caspian Sea. The implementation of the Caspian Environmental Initiative put forward by Turkmenistan will make it possible to consolidate efforts to maintain environmental well-being and coordinate targeted measures in the future.
