Specialists of UNESCO Chairs discuss the tasks of environmental culture for youth

The Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO and the first UNESCO Club in the country, "Languages of the World," operating at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammet Azadi, organized an online meeting on the topic "Enhancing Environmental Literacy of Youth through Promoting the Opportunities of the Caspian Sea." This meeting was dedicated to discussing joint activities with UNESCO chairs and clubs for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The event was attended by representatives of the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, leaders of UNESCO clubs such as "Akhal-Teke Horses – Ambassadors of Peace" of the International Horse Breeding Academy named after Aba Annayev, "Medicinal Plants – Our Health, Our Heritage" of the State Medical University of Turkmenistan named after Myrat Garryyev, "Culture of Peace" of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, "Environmental Protection – An Important Concept of Sustainable Development" of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute, "Languages of the World" of the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammet Azadi, as well as heads of UNESCO chairs like "Cultural Heritage: From Past to Future" of the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly and "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development" of the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi.

Participants of the meeting discussed the tasks of UNESCO clubs and chairs in enhancing the environmental culture of youth in the new academic year. They emphasized the importance of explaining Turkmenistan's constructive initiatives and approaches to cooperation on Caspian ecosystem protection issues, as well as the content of multilateral documents forming its legal basis. They highlighted the special significance of foundational documents such as the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, and the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Turkmen Caspian Sea Institute and the International Ocean Institute.

These topics will be comprehensively covered in classes, competitions and other events planned to be regularly held among the student youth. Special attention will be given to Turkmenistan's significant contribution to sustainable development in the Caspian region and ensuring its environmental well-being, as well as the active participation of the country's representatives in UNESCO activities and projects aimed at enhancing environmental literacy.
