Farmers of Dashoguz velayat intend to harvest 560 tons of sesame this year

Dashoguz velayat continues to be one of the major producers in the country of the valuable and in-demand oilseed crop, sesame. This year, they plan to harvest at least 560 tons of this valuable product.

The largest yields are expected in Kunyaurgench and S. Turkmenbashi etraps, with 140 tons each. Farmers of Akdepe etrap plan to harvest 135 tons with an average yield of 10 quintals per hectare.

According to experts, the crop is well-suited to local weather and climate conditions. Important factors for its cultivation include the sunny, warm weather typical of the area, which the plant needs throughout the growing season, and the crop's high drought resistance, requiring less water than other agricultural crops. Sesame responds well to fertilizers and irrigation, resulting in higher yields.

The mass production of sesame in the region is also facilitated by its short growing season. The varieties of the crop grown in the region are known for high yields and a high oil content from the seeds.

Sesame seeds are distinguished by their nutritional value, aroma, high fat content, and they contain microelements beneficial to the human body, such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and others. Sesame oil is also widely used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.

However, many local residents primarily love it for the special aroma and taste it gives to pilaf and the famous local white halvah.
