Speaking at the second «Central Asia–Germany» summit in Astana, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to achieving and maintaining regional peace, security and stability among the most important tasks of joint work.

«We believe that in the current conditions, closer policy and diplomatic cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Germany can have a noticeable constructive impact on the overall situation in the region and in the adjacent zones. To involve the efforts of the international community in this, first of all, in the person of the United Nations. We proceed from the common thoughts of the leaders of our countries to see Central Asia as a peaceful, calm, economically attractive region, a space of stability and predictability. For Turkmenistan, as a neutral peace–loving state, this approach is of fundamental importance», -the head of the Turkmen state said.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in achieving this goal, including in the format of «Central Asia – Germany». In this regard, it is proposed to strengthen diplomatic contacts between the Central Asian states and Germany, with special emphasis on such topics as the fight against international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and cross-border crime. In addition to these traditional risks, Turkmenistan proposes to take effective joint steps in the fight against new threats, cybercrime and biological hazards.

«All this requires modern effective protection mechanisms based on the latest scientific and technological developments that Germany can offer», -the head of state emphasised.

In this regard, Ashgabat expressed interest in cooperation with German specialized institutions, in particular, in the field of control and monitoring of the mentioned risks. It was also proposed to jointly define algorithms for working in these areas and in an international format, primarily in the UN and its relevant bodies.
