Today, the Turkmen capital hosted the second meeting of the speakers of the Parliaments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and South Korea.
It was noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation is a vital tool for maintaining productive dialogue between the countries and strengthening effective international partnerships and mutual understanding.
Speakers at the plenary session "Partnership for Peace, Prosperity, and Mutual Trust" highlighted the key role of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in establishing and strengthening parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and foreign countries. His foresight has strengthened and enriched centuries-old ties between peoples, giving them new constructive impulses and a future-oriented focus.
It was emphasized that in recent years, alongside traditional issues on the agenda for multilateral cooperation between Central Asian states and South Korea, inter-parliamentary dialogue has become significant in implementing high-level agreements and expanding practical cooperation. Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups play an important role in this, serving as an effective tool for mutual understanding between fraternal peoples.
In the afternoon, work continued in two sessions: "Economic Cooperation, Digital Economy and Industry" and "Cooperation between Central Asian Countries and South Korea to Mitigate Climate Change Impacts on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals."
Turkmenistan has proposed a new philosophy of international relations based on universal values: "Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace."
At the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan titled "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust" was unanimously adopted with 86 co-sponsoring countries. At the 79th session, Turkmenistan expressed its intention to actively work both nationally and internationally to maintain and strengthen global peace, stability, security, and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Participants acknowledged the effectiveness of the "Central Asia - Republic of Korea" format and noted that to successfully implement joint plans, it is necessary to elevate mutually beneficial partnerships between Central Asian countries and South Korea to a new level.
In sharing national experiences on sustainable development of strengthening legal cooperation frameworks, participants discussed modern methods for improving parliamentary and lawmaking activities, development of mechanisms for establishing connections between parliamentary friendship groups, specialized committees, women parliamentarians, and young deputies.
It was emphasized that the meeting of speakers from National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and Central Asian parliaments will serve as a platform for regular dialogue and determining cooperation directions across various fields.
The outcomes of this second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea were reflected in a Joint Declaration based on proposed suggestions and opinions.

As part of this second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea, a Turkmen-Korean consultative meeting took place with representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
Regular meetings have been noted to boost bilateral ties between two countries. A special emphasis was placed on inter-parliamentary relations as an essential component of interstate dialogue. An example cited was the participation of a delegation led by Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the first meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea held in Seoul in September 2023.
The sides discussed current issues of trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian cooperation, including the spheres of transport, energy, high technology, science, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, climate change, and environmental protection.
Today, on the margins of the second meeting, Chairperson of Mejlis D. Gulmanova met with Chairman of the Majilis of the Republic of Kazakhstan E. Koshanov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan M. Zokirzoda, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan N. Ismoilov; as well as meetings between inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups were held.
