A signing ceremony for protocols to Memoranda of understanding on two regional programs of the German society for international cooperation (GIZ) – «Climate risk management in Central Asia» and «Integrated and climate-sensitive land use in Central Asia» – took place in Ashgabat.
The signatories of the campaign were minister of environmental protection of Turkmenistan, Charygeldi Babanyyazov, and Joachim Fritz, who is coordinating the events in the country. The ceremony was attended by Sergey Makarov, director of a climate risk program, advisors Amangul Ovezberdiyeva and Gulnar Mergenova, and representatives of Ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of environmental protection.
Minister of environmental protection Chingiz Babanyyazov emphasised that GIZ is a reliable partner for Turkmenistan, which highly values the established cooperation and looks forward to its continuation. Joachim Fritz, GIZ coordinator in Turkmenistan, noted: «We are proud to collaborate with the Government of Turkmenistan on projects aimed at sustainable land management and climate resilience. Our joint efforts reflect our shared responsibility for a more sustainable future for Central Asia».
Both programs are synergistic in strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the efforts of government ministries of Turkmenistan and agencies in the areas of climate change adaptation, natural resource conservation, promoting integrated approaches to land and water management, disaster risk reduction, and developing and implementing effective practices in local soil and climatic conditions. The new protocols expand opportunities for regional cooperation and strengthen the impact of ongoing activities. The signing ceremony took place in the building of the Chamber of commerce and industry of Turkmenistan on the sidelines of the final day of the XXX International conference and exhibition «Oil and gas of Turkmenistan – 2025» (OGT 2025) on the 24th of October.
